Summary
Subject: Claim for Rs.3,335 million damages against Customs/Tax authorities for alleged harassment, unlawful proceedings, business disruption, loss of goodwill and reputation.
The appellants alleged that government authorities repeatedly initiated tax/customs actions, raids and penalties against them despite earlier favourable decisions, ultimately causing business losses.
The Trial Court dismissed the damages suit after recording ex parte evidence. The appellants challenged that dismissal before the High Court.
