Summary of Case The petitioners, who are engineers and business owners, filed a Constitutional Petition under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973 seeking protection against alleged harassment and coercive actions by cheque recipients and police authorities. The petitioners were in the process of acquiring IMS Electric (Pvt.) Ltd. and claimed that they discovered that the previous owners (Sellers) had issued multiple cheques to third parties for their personal liabilities before the acquisition. The petitioners argued that they had no connection, contractual relationship, or responsibility regarding those cheques, yet the recipients were allegedly threatening them and attempting to force payment. They further claimed that police officials were pressuring them by threatening FIR registration and legal action despite the cheques being issued by the Sellers. The petitioners alleged violations of their fundamental rights and requested the Court to restrain the respondents from harassment and unlawful action. The respondents denied any harassment and assured the Court that they would act strictly according to law. The Court observed that the petitioners had no nexus with the alleged liabilities of the Sellers and that the assurances of the respondents sufficiently addressed their concerns. The petition was disposed of, with directions to the respondents not to harass, intimidate, or take coercive action against the petitioners regarding the Sellers' liabilities except in accordance with law.
