Summary The petitioners challenged the SPSC's decision rejecting their candidature for the post of Deputy Director Fisheries after they had already qualified the written examination. SPSC claimed the petitioners lacked the required qualifications, while the petitioners argued that their Ph.D. in Zoology (with specialization in fisheries-related subjects) satisfied the eligibility criteria. The Court held that Zoology was a relevant qualification for the post, found the rejection orders arbitrary and unlawful, set them aside, and directed SPSC to conduct the petitioners' interviews. If they qualify, they are to be considered for appointment without affecting already selected candidates.
