 SUMMARY

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (Civil Petitions under Article 185(3)) decided multiple petitions filed by the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) challenging Lahore High Court judgments that had granted old-age pensions to employees who had completed slightly less than 15 years of insurable employment.

The core dispute was whether employees who had completed approximately 14 years and 6–11 months of insurable employment could be treated as having completed the statutory 15-year requirement under Section 22(1)(b) of the EOBI Act, 1976, by applying the “rounding-off” rule in the Schedule (treating six months or more as one full year).
