Summary The petitioners filed a constitutional petition seeking protection from harassment, threats, and extortion by private respondents during construction on their commercial plots in Shah Latif Town, Karachi. They alleged that armed persons demanded extortion (Bhatta), demolished boundary walls, and threatened them with false FIRs. FIRs had already been registered and were under investigation by the police. The Court observed that since the criminal law had already been set in motion and investigations were ongoing, it would not interfere extensively under constitutional jurisdiction. However, considering the criminal history of the accused and the petitioners’ concerns regarding safety, the Court directed the police to provide legal protection, continue the investigation according to law, and coordinate with the Mukhtiarkar and Board of Revenue to verify the title and possession of the plots. The petition was therefore disposed of with directions for protection and lawful investigation.
