Summary:
This case involves a criminal appeal against conviction where the appellants challenged the trial court’s judgment on grounds of misreading and non-reading of evidence. The High Court re-evaluated the prosecution evidence, found serious contradictions and lack of independent corroboration, and held that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. Applying the settled principle that benefit of doubt must go to the accused, the conviction and sentence were set aside and the appellants were acquitted.
