REMARKS
The most crucial question to be determined is whether in the exercise of its jurisdiction under Article 199 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, a High Court can order the conversion of consecutive sentences into concurrent ones, despite not being a trial or appellate/revisional court? It is imperative to recognize that this Court possesses inherent jurisdiction as well under Section 561-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 in addition to its constitutional jurisdiction. Section 561-A Cr.P.C. is broad in scope empowering the Court to pass any order necessary to prevent the abuse of the process of court and to secure the ends of justice.
